cos(WED): Skullgirls Valentine by Rikativity
Written by Riri (@lillyums)
Welcome to this week's Cosplay Wednesday segment featuring Rikativity, a geeky cosplayer from Florida. She's here to show us her cosplay of Valentine from Skullgirls. In case some of you don't know, Skullgirls is an indie game developed by Reverge Labs and co-published by Autumn Games and Konami; it's a 2D fighting game similar in playstyle as Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes. Valentine is a playable Skullgirl character, a nurse/ninja hybrid who fights like a classic ninja using hospital themed weapons, especially the seemingly unlimited supply of scalpels and syringes she can throw at you. She is usually portrayed as an antagonist in almost every story mode. Personality wise, she is often shown as a impersonal and condescending person and has no hesitation to resort to murder. With that being said, we love how Rikativity cosplayed this character, check out what she had to say about this cosplay and how she made it!

1. How long have you been cosplaying?
I first started cosplaying in 2009, but it became a more serious hobby of mine in 2012.
2. Why did you choose to cosplay this character?
I loved the mix of allure and danger with this character. She's attractive, yet unnerving at the same time.
3. How long did it take you to complete?
Approximately a month of on-and-off work.
4. Any difficulties when constructing the costume?
I'd never done such a drastic alteration to a wig before, and getting the spiked ponytail was quite a challenge. It took me a few tries, and I have to re-style it a bit after each time wearing it, but I'm very proud of how it ultimately turned out.
5. What do you love most about cosplaying this character?
Coming up to people with my syringe and asking "Ready for your shots?" is a blast. Most people aren't sure whether to be attracted to the "pretty nurse" or terrified of the syringe and eye-patch.
6. Where did you debut this costume? If you haven't... where do you plan to debut?
I debuted this costume at Fear Fete 2014 (Biloxi, MS). It was the first convention where I was invited to be a guest, and I was so excited to show this one off! They were even nice enough to let us do take some photos in the hospital section of their haunted house, which was a perfect setting!
7. What's next? Cosplay related of course...
I'm finally making a cosplay of my favorite character, Ariel (The Little Mermaid) in her shipwreck/sail dress. It's going to be the first cosplay I completely make from scratch!
Great job on this cosplay!
