Nerdiness by Mail: Essie Unboxes a Geek Fuel Subscription Box

written by Essie Charm (@EssieCharm)

This was my first subscription box experience, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to. That being said, there was a neat variety of stuff included and it was really exciting to discover what was inside.

The full inventory included: a Geek Fuel zine, Roche Fusion downloadable video game code, Espionage Cosmetics nail wraps, Galactic poster print, Mission Badge button from the movie The Martian, a Bob’s Burger’s comic, Doctor Who Tardis/Dalek ice cube tray, and Boba Fett/Ziggy Stardust mashup t-shirt.

A little birdie told me I could expect to find something from Espionage Cosmetics in here. I’ve heard so many good things about this brand, particularly their nail wraps, but have yet to try them for myself. Consequently, I was really pleased to uncover a glittery set of superhero inspired nail wraps! The color is a kind of blue/red ombre making a lovely fuschia hue (that happens matches my hair!) with cute little black superhero masks. The package says they last two weeks and I have friends that can back up that claim, so I’m really looking forward to sporting them!

Since I’m a cartoon geek, I was pretty thrilled to see the Bob’s Burger’s comic. The special variant cover art is really fantastic. I even noticed later that the specials board says, “Leek Fuel Burger.” I see what you did there, Geek Fuel!

Reaching the bottom of the box revealed one of the bigger items: a Dr. Who ice cube tray. This got me eager to make some tiny tardis and dalek ice cubes for cocktails. Or, I bet I could use these molds to make nerdy little soaps for my Whovian friends… Hmm, holiday gift idea, maybe?

The star of the box, though, was really the exclusive Boba Fett shirt. I’ll admit I’m not an uber Star Wars fanatic, but I am a huge David Bowie fan so that added touch of a Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt made me appreciate it that much more. I honestly had no clue what would be in this box prior to opening it, but I later learned that one of the highlights in Geek Fuel boxes every month is an exclusive tee with original designs. So if you like collecting geeky graphic tees, you’re gonna wanna get in on this!

Another guaranteed score in each box is a downloadable game code. This box had a space shooter game called, Roche Fusion. I love checking out indie games and I hadn’t heard of this one yet, so I’m looking forward to giving it a try. Gamers, what are you waiting for? Get Geek Fuel!

After discovering the treasures hidden inside my Geek Fuel box, I went to their website to take a look at past boxes. It didn’t take long for me to be incredibly envious of subscribers who received boxes from previous months. The site is loaded with raves and positive reviews for both the products and service. Plus, considering they’ve partnered with beloved brands such as Star Wars, DC Comics, Marvel, Nintendo, Doctor Who, and more, I think this would make a great gift for any geek! Or you know what? Just treat yo’self!
