cos(WED): Raven by Cait Rua
Written by Riri (@lillyums)
Welcome to this week's Cosplay Wednesday feature! We have Cait Rua cosplayed as Red Raven from Teen Titans. Raven is one of the five founding members of the Teen Titans. Raven has emoticlones, which are different sides of her personality that reside in her mind and resemble Raven in appearance, but they each wear different colored cloaks to represent that personality. Red Raven is the mental embodiment of her inner rage, anger, hatred, and darkness originating from the demonic heritage from her demon father, Trigon. With that being said, being angry in cosplay can be difficult to portray, but Cait Rua definitely does an A+ job at that! Check out how well she cosplays Raven!

1. How long have you been cosplaying?
My first cosplay was Kyo Sohma from Fruits Basket in 2011 that I thrifted all the things for. 2012 I did Honey-Sempai which I had my grandma help me sew. 2013 I worked for 6 months on my genderbend Hellboy cosplay and debuted at AkiCon 2013; I won first place at the cosplay contest at AkiCon 2013. I was pretty proud and since then I've committed to my passion of cosplay and have been working to build my portfolio and skills.
2. Why did you choose to cosplay this character?
Because I love Raven and Teen Titans. I also can relate to her so well. I'm always mellow at first until you know me, I used try to contain my emotions under the surface. Anger being a primary one, but eventually I had an awesome group of friends that taught me that you can let go and be yourself without having to fear they'll hate you.
3. How long did it take you to complete?
It took me about three weeks, condensing all the work and time together. I hand dremmelled all the jewels on my face, the belt was a process of frankensteining chains together, and since I used resin for those big jewels I had problems curing and coloring it so I had to call upon a cosplay senpai. The wig was cut by a friend, the cloak was collaborated with my Waifu and she did the sewing while I did the cutting (I can't sew a straight stitch to save my life.)
4. Any difficulties when constructing the costume?
The big jewels are completely made of resin and it took three tries to get the right mold/resin/color/etc. So much time and money went into them. I also have very ugly shoes I need to redo with her because as I said, I can't sew to save my life ^^
5. What do you love most about cosplaying this character?
That I can be completely natural and relaxed while posing and being in character. It's a costume that you don't see and I feel like I did a great job portraying the character. I put a lot of hard work into it and I'm always proud to show people.
6. Where did you debut this costume? If you haven't... where do you plan to debut?
Emerald City Comic Con 2014. I plan on doing her again at Rose City Comic Con 2014.
7. What's next? Cosplay related of course...:
Well, I'm currently working on several costumes and have an entire list on my dA. I'm working on Princess Vegeta and Creator Viktor as well as the Miraculous LadyBug.
This cosplay was awesome! We look forward to seeing more of your future cosplays!
