My Little Pony Rainbow Dash Vinyl Figure - A Makeover
A while ago, Funko came out with a couple of My Little Pony vinyl figurines: Derpy and Rainbow Dash. I actually picked up both figurines; Derpy I picked up first, but I was hesitant to pick up Rainbow Dash. Why? Because almost every Rainbow Dash figurine I've seen has always been wrong. How so? Well, letmeshowyou...
Tell me where on her top mane is there BLUE in the show? Even the red pieces above the blue weren't even that red - it was almost too hard to distinguish from the orange, which you couldn't even tell was orange. This was why I hesitated to buy this. But then I decided I can fix this. This post is posted into the Geek Provision & Goods blog because I have given Rainbow Dash a new hairdo.
I started with some acrylic gesso and just painted over parts that should have been red. I didn't do the paint stripper/thinner because I only needed part of her mane changed, and I felt like it would have been easier to make revisions by painting over the color. Anyways, 3 coats of acrylic gesso was sufficient, and then I did 3 coats of red acrylic paint. I also did the underside of the tail to accentuate (or add?) the red that was there. After the red paint dried for a couple hours, I painted it over with a Mod Podge matte finish.
