(cos)WED: Psylocke by Jerikandra Cosplay

Written by: Riri (@lillyums)

This week's Cosplay Wednesday feature welcomes back Jerikandra Cosplay, a local Seattle cosplayer.   We have her Psylocke cosplay to feature today. Many of us know that Psylocke has been around on the X-Men team for ages. A stealthy martial artist, she is Betsy, a mutant with deadly telekinetic powers.  She is incredibly loyal to her teammates and her friends.  Not only that, she is one hot ninja! Check out how Jerikandra wore Psylocke in this cosplay.

1. How long have you been cosplaying?
I've been cosplaying since August 2013 so I guess almost 3 years now, wow! I started out commissioning costumes and pieces of costumes and then Abi Sue Cosplay taught me to sew and that's all she wrote. ;) I've been making a lot of my own costumes now including teaching myself how to work with latex (which is glued, not sewn).

2. Why did you choose to cosplay this character?
Well first off, my favorite color is purple so Psylocke was a great choice but I also enjoyed reading some of the X-Men comics that involved her. She's a badass and I love that about her. Her history of switching bodies is really unique as well.

3. How long did it take you to complete?
Timing alone, I started probably in November 2015 and I finished before March so about ~ 3-4 months. (of my free time anyway)

4. Any difficulties when constructing the costume?
Some. It always starts with patterns. I started with the basic Yaya Han bodysuit pattern and Abi Sue Cosplay helped me modify it for my own liking. It was relatively easy then to cut it and sew up the basic body suit but I did have to take it in in places (new pattern) and updated the pattern which I then tried on my new pink fairy costume (which had a similar swimsuit/bodysuit).

The gloves were relatively easy (using a nude mesh in between the stripes) and of course the boot covers themselves are pretty tough to mold around the shoe and I did something new this time by sewing the tops of the boot covers to an actual pair of tights....so the boot covers (including the nude mesh between stripes) and tights are actually all one piece (that has to go on first btw).

Later I added the boob window to slightly match the movie version of Psylocke ;)

5. What do you love most about cosplaying this character?
Like I said before, she's bad ass and sexy and she has a sword!!! Early on I commissioned the sword by Dolfworks and he did an awesome job too! At some point I'd like to do a light up sword or psy knife ;)

6. Where did you debut this costume? If you haven't... where do you plan to debut?
Yes I debuted this costume at Silicon Valley Comicon 2016 in March in San Jose. I also wore it to Emerald City Comicon this year too ;) And will probably wear it again at Rose City in Portland (September).

7. What's next? Cosplay related of course...
Next! I'm redoing my new 52 Supergirl in shinier fabrics as well as adding more complex seam lines and contouring to better match the actual comics costume.

Also hoping to cosplay Valentina Valencia from Zoolander 2 (red leather jumpsuit).

Finally hoping to do a latex Purple Batgirl (of burnside) soon too!

Allll the cosplays! =)

Wow I am loving all the new upcoming cosplay fixes and creations ! Looking forward to seeing it!
