(cos)WED: Jerikandra Cosplay as Power Girl

(cos)WED: Jerikandra Cosplay as Power Girl

Written by Riri (@lillyums)

This week's Cosplay Wednesday features returning cosplayer, Jerikandra Cosplay, a local Seattle cosplayer.  She recently debuted Power Girl and we are totally in love with this cosplay. Power Girl is like Supergirl but for Earth-Two, if you follow the story.  Her powers of Earth-Two are still that of a Kryptonian; superhuman strength, invulnerability, flight, x-ray vision, heat vision... you know, the usual.  She's same bad ass Kara that we know, which is probably why we are seeing Jerikandra cosplay this heroine.  Check out how she did it and what she had to say about this cosplay.

1. How long have you been cosplaying?
Almost 4 years now.

2. Why did you choose to cosplay this character?
Well I've been practically obsessed with Supergirl since I started cosplaying. Power Girl is merely another iteration of her with a different costume and personality.

If you want the truth though? Between my pink fairy, Psylocke, and my new Vampire Queen costume, I've been doing swimsuit/bodysuit costumes with boob windows. It seemed like the natural progression to do Power Girl next. ;)

3. How long did it take you to complete?
I started it in December and finished it right in time for Emerald City Comicon in March. So a couple months of my free time. I was however working on other costumes during this time too so you know, it's hard to really count exact hours or anything.

4. Any difficulties when constructing the costume?
The bodysuit itself was pretty easy since I'd already done similar ones in pink and purple. Although I was worried about getting the white dirty so I washed my hands a lot before handling it. I also ended up redoing the front crotch part because I didn't like the original cut when I first did it.

Also interestingly enough, I wanted to have that big cosplay boob look so I tried wearing 2 bras to push the girls up more. What I didn't take into account was the fact that I had cut and sew the boob window for 1 bra so when I tried wearing it with 2 bras, the boob window was pulled down a bit and showed some bra. This was a frustrating part about wearing the costume at con, I was constantly pulling the window up over the bra.

Other than the crotch and boob window itself, the gloves and boots were a bit of a challenge since they had the 'foldover' look. i accomplished this with craft foam sewn into both the boots and gloves. Oh also, making gloves sucks! haha

5. What do you love most about cosplaying this character?
Power Girl / Kara Zor-L / Karen Starr is a fun character. She's slightly different from Supergirl / Kara Zor-El in that she's a little more confident and mature. But she's similar in that she has an attitude and a temper and she doesn't take shit.

I relate to that very much =)

6. Where did you debut this costume? If you haven't... where do you plan to debut?: I debuted at Emerald City Comicon and plan to wear it again at Lilac City Comicon in June (Spokane).

7. What's next? Cosplay related of course...
Next is Sailor Saturn for Sakura Con and then I'm also hoping to debut a DC Superhero girls Batgirl as well =) ... maybe also for Lilac City Comicon.

Thanks Jerikandra! We love seeing and hearing all about your work! Looking forward to your future works.
