Cosplay Wednesday: 90's Rogue by Abi Sue Cosplay

Cosplay Wednesday: 90's Rogue by Abi Sue Cosplay

Written by Riri (@Lillyums)

Our Cosplay Wednesday this week features Abi Sue Cosplay as our classic 90's version Rogue from X-Men. Rogue is a mutant who hates her powers, and considers them a curse. Her power absorbs the strength and superpowers of anyone who comes in contact with her bare skin and could also kill others if they hold on long enough. It was hard over the years unable to touch anyone including her off and on love interest, Gambit.  Despite her hardships, she is a strong willed, sexy and wild southern belle and sure knows how to work her charm! Abi Sue Cosplay sure knows how to portray Rogue's wild and fun side!

1. How long have you been cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying for about 5 years now

2. Why did you choose this cosplay?
When I met my husband I didn't know much about her, she was his favorite Marvel character. I decided to make her originally for my Super Hero themed birthday party 4 years ago, I started researching her and reading a lot of her comics and over the years I have realized how similar our personalities are and I just have such an affinity for her in the comics. I love her 90's version green and yellow costume the best, but I have done at least 3 other versions of her costume now.

3. How long did it take to complete?
Originally it took about a month. I had to create my first bodysuit pattern with math and an online tutorial. Over the years I have upgraded everything about her so I'm not sure anymore how much time has gone into this costume.

4. What was the hardest part when constructing it?
Creating the bodysuit pattern. It takes a lot to fit something like a glove to your body! Speaking of gloves, they suck to make! I have had to make many over the years and I never have learned to love it. I have made every bit of this costume including hand sewing the jacket. I am currently remaking the jacket with real leather, so excited!

5. What do you love most about this cosplay?
The ability to create things from fabric and various other materials. The creativity that goes into each costume is enormous! And then being able to put on that costume and getting pictures taken just reaffirms that all the hard work pays off. Oh and the kids! How their eyes light up when they see their favorite hero! I love getting mini-me twin photos with the kid versions of me, it's my favorite thing ever!

6. Are you debuting this at a convention? If you already have, which convention?
I debuted the first version of this costume at Bellingham Comicon 4 years ago.

7. What's your next cosplay project?
Lady Sif from Thor: Dark World, super excited about this one! Lots of armor and leather and crazy awesome weapons!

We can't wait to see Lady Sif!!
