No Go on the Death Star, Says The White House

When will we get one of these in space!?

Back in November, a petition was created on The White House government page to  "secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016."  Not only that, this promotes job creation and a strong national defense!

RIGHT!?

Unfortunately....

The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a Death Star isn't on the horizon. Here are a few reasons:

  • The construction of the Death Star has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
  • The Administration does not support blowing up planets.
  • Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship

The official response was actually kind of humorous.  Paul Shawcross definitely has some geek love and his response reaches out to our geek fan.

Typically, anybody can create a petition; it's having to get 25,000 signatures in 30 days to actually be officially reviewed by the White House officials.  We reached 34,435 signatures, people. Amazing.  All you geeks out there, you make me so happy. :')  But I mean, come on...that's a lot of zeros in cost to construct a Death Star.  Would be awesome, some day... some day.

It's ok, because next in news is a petition to build the Star Trek Enterprise. Haha but that is another story.
