(cos)WED: Winter Soldier cosplay by Kuroshiba

Written by Riri (@lillyums)

Welcome to Cosplay Wednesday! We are here to feature a New Zealand cosplayer, Kuroshiba. We don't get many international submissions and definitely a first from New Zealand! His cosplay of The Winter Soldier is fantastic. When not under some crazy brainwashing from HYDRA, the Winter Soldier is a very loyal, devoted, and courageous person.  He is a master hand-to-hand combatant and master marksman due to his vast training from the US Army and HYDRA. His powers from the Super Soldier Serum gave him all sorts of enhanced abilities comparative to Captain America's. He's pretty much super strong and there's no way I wouldn't have him on my team. Check out how Kuroshiba made his Winter Soldier cosplay come to life.

1. How long have you been cosplaying?
Almost 3 years now. I got into it through my wife, who suggested we go to a con dressed up as Harley Quinn and Harvey Dent.... how cool is that???

2. Why did you choose to cosplay this character?
I loved how many parts Bucky's costume had, and thought the challenge of building the metallic arm and sewing the leather vest would be great to take on. I tend to go for badass characters, and Bucky definitely fits that bill!

3. How long did it take you to complete?
About 3 months in total...... a lot of that time was fiddling with the prop guns and sanding and sanding and SANDING the metallic arm out of plaster.

4. Any difficulties when constructing the costume?
Yup, sewing the leather vest. I HATE sewing, and this was the first thing I'd tried to sew in my life. I was definitely in the deep end!

5. What do you love most about cosplaying this character?
I love how recognizable he is, and one funny thing that I love about cosplaying this character is that he's mostly masked, so I can be uber lazy and not have to worry about what expression my face is doing and it'll still usually look good!!! :D

6. Where did you debut this costume? If you haven't... where do you plan to debut?
At the first ever Wellington Comic Con in New Zealand.

7. What's next? Cosplay related of course...
A new genderbend from League of Legends. It'll be a BIG build, I'm pretty excited.

Wow we are totally amazed by the work Kuroshiba has done on the arm.  Looking forward to seeing your gender bent cosplay from League of Legends!
