Many of us are looking forward to the next season of Game of Thrones this coming March 2013. Not only was the recent release date exciting news, but the next best news is this: we are going to see an additional 4-5 minutes of screen time per episode. WHOO!
According to Entertainment Weekly, the producer and writer duo David Benioff and Dan Weiss will be delivering a "super sized" third season which will cover about the first half of A Storm of Swords. While we still will get 10 episodes, “There’s almost another full episode’s worth of extra minutes spread across the season,” Weiss says. “One of the great liberties with HBO is we’re not forced to come in at a specific time. We can’t be under 50 minutes or over 60, but that gives us a lot of flexibility.” And then David Benioff adds, “Last year we had a lot of 52-minute episodes. This year is a lot of 56, 57.”
Maybe 52 minutes vs 57 minutes isn't a huge difference to some people, but I think every minute counts; don't you know how many pages in the book an additional 5 minutes can cover?? I actually don't know the answer to that. The finale of Season 3 is expected to run more than an hour, which would require special permission from HBO since Season 2's finale ran a little over an hour as well.
I'm definitely excited that we'll be seeing more of the Game of Thrones. I can't wait for March 31! Who doesn't want to see more of King Joffrey's douchebaggery??
