The Flash "Enter Zoom" (REVIEW)

The Flash "Enter Zoom" (REVIEW)

Written by Jacob Chimilar (@sweetlows)

We start this episode with Barry and Dr.Light talking about why she did what she did and what her objective was. Kill her Earth Prime self and take down The Flash, throwing his emblem into one of the dimension tears so he could retrieve him. Barry had the idea that they could fake the whole thing to lure Zoom back but Dr.Light will have none of it, she failed and now she has to run for her life from Zoom if she can. Spivot hard at work on the Dr.Light case, tells Joe about the many possible forms Dr.Light could take, including invisibility. Joe, knowing she is locked up in STARR Labs tells her to let it go. Back at STAR Labs however, Cisco is unaware of this power and when he finds her cell empty and her clothes on the floor, he opens it and sets her free.  Now Barry's plan is in jeopardy, until he as The Flash convinces Earth Prime's Linda Park to dress up as Dr.Light by revealing his identity. They give her  the clothes Earth-2 Park left behind and some new gadgets Cisco cooked up to give her similar powers, and put her through her paces. It's a fun training sequence and one Wells seems unconvinced in its validity and hope for success. While the rest of the gang is having second thoughts about the mission as well, Barry wants to forge ahead and end it once and for all before more people are sent through and killed because of him.

Still feeling unsure about Wells, Joe asks Cisco to try and use his Vibe powers to see something from Wells. on his first try, Wells shuts him down hard knowing exactly what it was he was trying to do. Eventually Cisco manages to play clumsy when Wells tries adjusting his light shooting gauntlets made for the Dr.Light costume and gets a hand on Wells where he sees Zoom torturing Wells' daughter Jesse. Wells doesn't clue in this time that he has "vibed" him which turns out for the worse as we see in a flashback.

In said flashback we see Wells and Jesse, have a pretty good if somewhat distant relationship, Wells affectionately refers to her as his "Jesse Quick," comic book fans will get the reference. He has been keeping the secret of his involvement of the creation of meta humans from Jesse and that upsets her and she storms away. We also see that Zoom has attacked the college that Jesse attends and  had captured her. Wells presumed that she was killed by him. Thus his motivation to take Zoom down since he was the one who ultimately created Zoom and caused his own daughter's death.

There is a bit of the Barry/Spivot romance in this episode, although not much, mostly just her seeking Joe's approval of it and him just kind of saying "yeah great, can we stop now?" when she tries to play the "we should share everything, anything you want to share" move. Joe has none of it and she is still left in the dark about Team Flash. I'm sure this will eventually come into play at some point and she will be trusted enough to join the team.

During the attempt to lure in Zoom with Barry's fake take down by Earth Prime Linda's Dr.Light both Wells and Joe stand by ready to take a shot to catch Zoom off guard and put in a speed inhibitor to slow him down enough to capture him. After waiting over an hour we find he has not fallen for it and the team returns to the lab and Park goes to hang out with Iris. She is snatched up by Zoom and from there he heads to STARR Labs where Wells' watch goes off and alerts Barry to him being on the roof. This leads to an epic show down where Flash and Zoom square off. It's a great scene and a fantastic introduction to Zoom and his capabilities. Zoom is one evil dude and that is made VERY clear in this episode. If you thought Reverse Flash was a bad guy, Zoom makes him look like child's play.

What an epic episode of The Flash! this is the kind of stuff this show does so well. We got our first look at Zoom verse Flash and it was amazing. I had goosebumps during that whole scene. The build up was great and it revealed some new information about Wells. Overall a definite highlight of the season so far, proving this show isn't afraid to do big things early because you just know they have other awesome stuff to come.
