Cosplay Wednesday: Ho-Oh Pokemon by Gold Rose Cosplay

Written by Riri (@Lillyums)

Welcome our next Cosplay Wednesday submission, Gold Rose Cosplay.  She is here to show us her version of the Pokemon, Ho-Oh! Ho-Oh is a Legendary Pokemon, making its first appearance in the Pokemon Gold/Silver version AND is the mascot of the Gold version game. Being Legendary makes Ho-Oh the only one and super rare!  I love Legendary Pokemon including Ho-Oh, and so does Gold Rose Cosplay! Check out how she depicted her version of this Legendary Ho-Oh as a human!

  1. How long have you been cosplaying?
I have been cosplaying for 8 years, I started when I was 14

  2. Why did you choose this cosplay?
I chose this cosplay partially based on the design and of course because I love the Pokemon! My criteria for every cosplay that I choose is that I have to like the character!

  3. How long did it take to complete?
It took over a year to complete, the embroidery alone took nearly 48 hours! From when I first decided I was going to make this cosplay, I had already decided that I wanted to enter at least one cosplay contest with it, so I took my time making sure every detail way exactly how I wanted and well-constructed.

  4. What was the hardest part when constructing it?
The hardest part was the embroidery and making the top fit correctly. I had never done embroidery of any kind before, so I had to learn while doing this cosplay, and the top is made of two different types of fabric, one two-way stretch, and one four-way stretch, so getting them to fit together correctly and not warp from the weight of the beads was quite a challenge! Everything else, like the wings, belt, and headpiece, was time-consuming, but not particularly difficult.

  5. What do you love most about this cosplay?
The better question is: What don't I love? Since I really took my time, and it's a design variation instead of an exact copy, I had the time and freedom to make everything exactly how I wanted. A few parts worth mentioning are the secret pouch under the back that can hold my cell phone, ID, and money, the back has four hooks and eyes that allow it to be bustled up for walking around and let down for photos, and at the bottom of the train, there's a fully bead embroidered rainbow feather that's about five inches long.

  6. Are you debuting this at a convention? If you already have, which convention?
I officially debuted this cosplay at Fanime 2013, but continued to work on it until it was officially complete at Animation on Display 2014, where I entered it in the cosplay contest and won Best Construction!

  7. What's your next cosplay project?
I'm currently working on two things, Elsa from "Frozen" and Emmy from "Professor Layton". I'm not sure which will be done first because which one I work on really depends on my mood, haha.

That is excellent, Gold Rose Cosplay! Great job winning Best Construction at Animation on Display 2014.  We can wait to see more of your future work!
