Doctor Who: Series 8 Episode 7 "Kill the Moon" (REVIEW)

God I hate spiders... I really freaking hate spiders... so a Doctor Who episode with giant space spiders on the moon? Equally awesome and skin crawl inducing. After the somewhat disappointing episode from the previous week, it's nice to see a more interesting monster with some of that classic Doctor Who feels.

After introducing Clara's student Courtney Woods to the vastness of the Doctor's world, Courtney ends up joining in on an adventure with Clara and the Doctor. Offering to take the kid on a jaunt to the moon proves to be more than just a simple field trip

Sometime in the very near future... the moon begins to change. Causing widespread panic on Earth, a small team of astronauts are sent to the moon to (as the episode namesake states) to kill the moon. Investigating a small research facility proves to be one of those skin crawling moments, with cobwebs all over the moon and these giant space spiders that look to be the reason behind the change in the moon, but also... something is alive there, can the Doctor really allow the death of a another creature on his watch?

So far the episode has felt more like Doctor Who than any of the episodes this season so far. Aside from the creepy crawlies, I thoroughly enjoyed the entirety of this episode and look forward to the next one. The strained nature of Clara and the Doctor's relationship takes front and center again with the episode ending on an uncertain note whether Clara will still travel with the Doctor.

The next episode looks promising, but as far as this past episode goes... it's nice to see number twelve being more like the Doctors of series past.
