High Crit Paralysis SnS, Undying Blast Switch Axe, and Obligatory Glutton Build - Monster Hunter World Mixed Sets
written by Justin Prince (@prince_justin)
Sup g33ks! Since my last Monster Hunter World Mixed Set article, I decided to launch a YouTube channel to share these builds. But of course for our fans that enjoy the editorial approach I wanted to make sure we shared these builds for you folks. I’m bringing to you guys today three new builds to better diversify your Monster Hunting activities. I have a 95% Affinity Forever Sharp Paralysis SnS build, insane regen with the Undying Switch Axe build, and of course the Obligatory Glutton build (everyone’s gotta have one).
These builds are reliant on Arch Tempered Elders, so these may not be immediately available to you… but if you are like me and you went after every ATED the second it was launched… have some fun! Of course, I also wish you the best of luck with the council of RNG.

95% Affinity Forever Sharp Paralysis SnS
Are you the hunter that wants to crowd control a monster while limiting downtime with flow disrupting sharpening? This is the build for you my friends. Quite a bit goes into this build, 95% Affinity, Master’s Touch set bonus, Paralysis element topped off with critical status. You’ll be landing critical hits, sharpening less, and of course freezing monsters in their tracks like you were a Human/Great Girros hybrid.

Master’s Touch
This build is awesome at crowd control, maxing out paralysis attack on top of having one the the Kjárr weapons (build in critical status/element) ensures that whenever you proc paralysis you will be doing the highest possible paralysis damage as long as you are hitting weak spots. Having 95% affinity (45% base with 50% from Weakness Exploit) ensures that you will crit almost every time! You have only a 5% chance not to crit, and even if five out of a hundred hits isn’t a crit, the DPS drop is miniscule. As far as sharpness is involved, having almost max in Handicraft ensures that your white sharpness bar is very high. What ensures that your sharpness last forever is in the Teostra set bonus, Master’s Touch. As long as you are hitting weak spots you’ll crit, as long as you crit it will prevent your sharpness from dropping.
The Undying Blasting Switch Axe
This is very similar to my Ultimate Survivalist build in the last article. I love defensive skills (contrary to how some of the elitists in the community crap on them) and this is full of them. I use this build when I just want to chill and hunt, while it won’t break any time attack records, it does allow you to hunt comfortably. Massive regen plus blast damage make for a compelling combo.

Earplugs 5 (MAX)
Health Boost 3 (MAX)
Recovery Up 3 (MAX)
Recovery Speed 3 (MAX)
Power Prolonger 3 (MAX)
Peak Performance 3 (MAX)
Divine Blessing 3 (MAX)
Dragon Attack 2 (unneeded)
Agitator 1
Tool Specialist 1
Hasten Recovery 1 (MAX)
Set Bonus
Super Recovery
Stamina Cap Up
Much like the Ultimate Survivalist build, this build is heavy on regen. Augmenting the weapon for regen, Hasten Recovery on the weapon, and Recovery Up work well together to top your health pool off in the span of a combo or two. Recovery Speed amps up how fast your recoverable health returns and the Super Recovery bonus skill gives you additional breathing room after filling up recoverable health. To help out with DPS, Peak Performance will ensure that you’re doing decent damage as long as your HP is full, and with all this regen you should have full HP for most of the hunt. I threw on Divine Blessing because I swear it procs more often than not and can make the difference when face-tanking some of the bigger hits, Power Prolonger ensures that my sword mode stays amped up for longer. This is a very safe build, it’s almost too safe. Don’t let elitist dicks dictate how you hunt, this as just as valid as the “but-mah-DEEPS” builds.
The Obligatory Glutton Build
If you’re one of those blessed by our Lord and Savior RNGesus and Golden Katie dropped a Taroth Assault “Glutton,” I’m sure you already have a Glutton build. This one is mine, and while it doesn’t max out on attack, I generally prefer my builds to be more well rounded and less gimmicky. I love a gimmick as much as the next guy, I may be looking into building a Glutton Glass Canon build eventually, but I want my builds to be the kind that hunters can use regularly. With that, here is my Obligatory Glutton Build.
Equipment
Weapon: Taroth Assault “Glutton”
Head: Kaiser Crown γ
Chest: Kirin Jacket γ
Arms: Drachen Vambraces α
Waist: Empress Coil γ
Legs: Drachen Greaves α
Charm: Attack Charm III
Decorations
Weapon: (none)
Head: Shield, Tenderizer
Chest: Vitality, Expert
Arms: Tenderizer X2
Waist: Spread
Legs: Elementless
Skills
Attack Boost 6
Critical Eye 5
Health Boost 3 (MAX)
Weakness Exploit 3 (MAX)
Free Elem/Ammo Up 2
Evade Window 2
Spread/Power Shots 1 (MAX)
Critical Boost 1
Guard Up 1 (MAX)
Non-elemental Boost 1
So this build has some customizability to it, this is just how I like my Glutton build, For augments, I opted for affinity and attack; while normally I like running regen augments on most of my weapons, for some reason when using spread ammo the regen is only based on one pellet and not the entirety of the damage caused. I don’t know if they’ll ever patch it but it is what it is. For HBG customization, I slotted in two close-range mods and one shield mod. The shield mod is more so optional, but it pairs well with the shield deco. In the video you’ll see how I shrug off some big hits from Kirin, especially the normally unblockable hits, If you decide to opt out of the shield mod, you can swap the shield deco for an attack deco or anything else to be honest. If you follow this build, you should have 95% affinity when hitting weak spots, really racking up high damage from all the cries you’ll be handing out. Spread deco and the element less deco further increase damage. This is a super powerful build and while it doesn’t totally optimize the damage output, I personally would have wanted to have Peak Performance on it, it’s well rounded and gets the job done fairly quickly.
